PAETEC Releases New Conference Calling Product - Dec 19, 2001
Fairport, NY, December 19, 2001/Businesswire/--PAETEC Corp., a holding company whose principal subsidiary is PAETEC Communications, Inc.' an integrated communications provider ("ICP"), today announced the release of its new conference calling product. This highly automated service is yet another value-added solution offered by PAETEC to its customers.

PAETEC's conference calling offerings provide two service options to its customers -- basic or enhanced conferencing.

Basic conferencing is a reservationless, on-demand subscription based product that allows customers to set up and conduct a conference without the assistance of an operator. This service provides the subscriber a toll-free dial in number and a seven-digit access code that can be used at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Providing the subscriber with complete control over the conference via touch-tone commands or an optional web-based interface, this service is designed for frequent conferencing users. Providing flexibility and easy manageability, PAETEC's basic conferencing option can accommodate up to 96 users on a single call. Enhanced conferencing combines the features and benefits of basic conferencing and adds the ability to host event-type conference calls. The event-type call is a very formal, professional method for customers to conduct complex conference calls that require assistance by a conference operator. Operators can greet and screen participants, usher them into the conference, conduct customized introductions, and administer question-and-answer sessions. Event calls can effectively accommodate 3 to over 3,000 participants.

"PAETEC is constantly evaluating its product offerings to provide the mission critical services demanded by its customers," said Brian Benjamin, PAETEC's Vice President of Marketing. "Conference calling has become a highly popular and effective method of conducting business meetings and we are excited to be presenting it as part of our expanding suite of customer services."

A Letter Regarding The Recent World Trade Center Tragedy - Sep 14, 2001
Fairport, NY/September 14, 2001/--The horrific events of this past week have affected all Americans and PAETEC Communications, Inc. extends its deepest sympathies to all who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy.

All of PAETEC's nine switching centers, located throughout the country, are completely operational and only minor disruptions to our network in New York City have been experienced. While we have contacted most customers by phone, we wanted to make sure all of our customers were aware that our team of employees is working around the clock to restore services to those impacted.

Our first priority is to restore critical services to hospitals and emergency-care providers. Other maintenance requests will be resolved on a first-come, first-served basis. We will gladly re-route calls to other locations, or numbers, if we have not already done so. Please contact your account manager or our customer service department at 1-877-340-2555 to have this arranged.

The World Trade Center was a major hub for many carriers' national and international traffic. While traffic is being re-routed wherever possible, there is national network congestion causing blockage on some calls. We ask for your cooperation as we work with our customers and other carriers on first restoring critical services.

We will continue to accept requests for new service and changes to service. While there certainly will be delays in the New York City area, requests for service in other parts of the country are not anticipated to experience any delays.

Thank you, once again, for your patience and support.

MPX Deploys Wireless Connection For PAETEC Communications - Aug 08, 2001
High Speed Link Offers Major Customer Network Diversity
ROCHESTER, N.Y., August 8, 2001/Businesswire/--MPX, Inc., a fixed wireless infrastructure provider, announced an agreement to design, install, and maintain a high-capacity wireless network connection for PAETEC Communications, Inc., an integrated communications provider (ICP), based in Fairport, NY. The five-year contract, valued at over $500,000, provides wireless broadband connectivity for PAETEC customers and already has been implemented in Upstate New York.

"PAETEC is committed to delivering quality services and value to its customers," said Matt Coso, PAETEC's Vice President of Sales in Upstate New York. "One of our key objectives is to help customers increase their productivity and reduce their costs by providing the right solution for their communications needs. MPX's wireless network connection represents another opportunity for PAETEC to offer comprehensive value-added services to businesses in Upstate New York."

PAETEC provides its customers with a complete suite of integrated voice and data services that can be delivered over this dedicated wireless connection. The use of MPX's technology enables PAETEC to offer its customers a connection with route and technology diversity, providing an alternative or supplemental means of transporting telecommunications traffic using wireless rather than wireline facilities. "Large and small companies increasingly view their Internet and telephone connections as critical to their business. Downtime for any reason is unacceptable," said Dan Martin, Director of Network Planning at PAETEC. "In this situation, MPX can provision a wireless connection to reliably handle our customers' voice and data information that is completely independent of the existing telecommunications infrastructure."

To create the wireless connection, MPX deploys a series of FCC-licensed microwave radio systems creating multiple channels that transmit digital data at DS-3 speeds (45 megabits per second), OC-3 speeds and above. Each DS-3 channel can carry the equivalent of 672 phone conversations at once. In addition to engineering and installing the connections, MPX provides monitoring and on-site maintenance support to PAETEC over the term of the 5-year contract.

"While our services are frequently used to create a primary network link, fixed wireless connections can provide an added layer of insurance that helps a CIO sleep better," said Mark Palvino, President and Co-Founder of MPX. "MPX can provide PAETEC, and its customers, with affordable 'disaster recovery' solutions for transmission of mission-critical data."

MPX has installed high-bandwidth, fixed wireless networks and connections in the Rochester, N.Y. area and across the country, serving carrier and enterprise customers in more than 20 states. About MPX
Based in Pittsford, NY, MPX is dedicated to building fixed wireless data infrastructure networks. MPX engineers, installs, and supports systems that create high-bandwidth data connections between locations in a carrier, Internet Service Provider or private-enterprise network. PAETEC Group Earns RIT Certification - Jun 08, 2001
FAIRPORT, NY, June 8, 2001/-- PAETEC Communications Inc., a rapidly growing, locally based integrated telecommunications company with operations in 27 markets nationwide, is proud to announce that, this spring, the following employees received professional certificates in Voice Communications from Rochester Institute of Technology's College of Applied Science and Technology. Listed below are the recipients, by location:

Ann Arbor, Mich.
Jim Dancer
David Miller Jr.

Irvine, Calif.
William Pavone

Rochester, N.Y.
Jason Elston
Sedrick Rogers
Patrick Hobbs

Boston, Mass.
Mike Connolly

Sterling, Va.
William Sewell

The employees are the first from PAETEC to complete the RIT Voice Communications certificate program, which they began last September. Hobbs received his certificate in March; the other seven employees received their certificates in May.

In the billion-dollar telecommunications market, where experienced employees are at a premium, PAETEC made a corporate decision to invest in employee education as one sure way of developing the expertise of its own work force.

"The technology we're dealing with is changing so rapidly that you risk becoming obsolete if you sit still," said PAETEC Executive Vice President Richard Ottalagana. "We need to continually educate ourselves to be successful." Through RIT Corporate Education and Training, the company is providing its employees with direct access to RIT's premier online telecommunications program, which includes three certificate levels: Voice Communications, Data Communications, and Telecommunications Network Management. Employees are enthusiastic about the opportunity, and over 130 current PAETEC employees are involved in the program at different levels.

PAETEC also chose to work with CET as its educational partner because it has the flexibility to accommodate a rapidly growing business.

"We're 100 percent in favor of using online education," Ottalagana said. "It's the only way to reach a widely dispersed work force. And again, RIT was able to accommodate our needs so that employees could receive an education based on their schedules."

PAETEC Communications Initiates ASP Offering - Mar 29, 2001
FAIRPORT, NY, March 29, 2001/-- PAETEC Corp., a holding company whose principal subsidiary is PAETEC Communications, Inc., an integrated communications provider (ICP), today announced that it has successfully implemented its Applications Service Provider (ASP) offering. PAETEC's acquisition of Pinnacle Software Corporation last year accelerated its ability to bring an ASP offering to market and this latest achievement should increase PAETEC's competitive position within the telecommunications marketplace.

PAETEC's ASP offering is designed to provide communications management services, through the Pinnacle Communications Management System, to its customers at an affordable cost. By hosting the management system and related database on centralized servers, PAETEC customers will be able to operate, maintain, and support the Pinnacle Communications Management System as if the software was operated internally from the customer's own computer equipment, but without the corresponding responsibility, administration, and overhead. PAETEC's ASP customers will receive this functionality via Internet or dedicated T-1 access and all processing will occur on PAETEC's server cluster located within its secured data operations center. All ASP communications are encrypted and all ASP servers and databases are secured and fault tolerant.

"PAETEC's ASP offering generates significant operational economies of scale for customers," said Richard Lines, PAETEC's President, Pinnacle Product Solutions. "Hosting customers' applications internally allows PAETEC to leverage its existing operational systems and technical expertise, while providing consistent, cost-effective and quality service to its customers. Customers no longer need to struggle with the demands of managing and supporting a communications management system and can instead focus their efforts on realizing their strategic objectives." The State University of New York College at Geneseo has successfully converted to the PAETEC ASP service. According to Jerry Burns, SUNY Geneseo's Director of Telecommunications Services, "The transition to PAETEC's ASP has been seamless. We're excited by the opportunities that operating under PAETEC's ASP will now provide the college. Our telecommunications department will be in a stronger position to focus its resources on its core mandate of effectively managing its telecommunications business operations, rather than concentrating energies toward managing the system environment."

Cisco Extends Service Provider Offerings With New Managed Security Services - Mar 28, 2001
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- March 28, 2001 -- Underscoring its momentum in the service-provider market, Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced a comprehensive initiative to help service providers meet growing enterprise customer demand for managed security and virtual private network (VPN) solutions.
The Cisco Managed Security Services Initiative includes two new programs that have been designed to guide enterprise customers to qualified, best-in-class service providers for outsourced security services, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems (IDS).
Programs in the Cisco Managed Security Services Initiative include:
- Cisco Powered Network Managed Security Services Designation: The popular Cisco Powered Network program, which has about 500 members in 52 countries, has been extended to recognize key infrastructure partners who offer managed-security services based on Cisco's industry-leading firewall and intrusion detection products. This new service category complements the existing and well-established VPN services category.
- Cisco AVVID Partner Program, Security and VPN Solution Set: The Security and VPN Solutions category of the Cisco AVVID Partner Program (an interoperability testing and co-marketing program based on Cisco AVVID--the Cisco Architecture for Voice, Video, and Integrated Data) includes a new Outsourced Management & Monitoring section for qualified vendors. This is of particular interest to aggressive new providers who are specifically building their businesses for the delivery of managed security and VPN services.</LI> The Cisco Managed Security Services Initiative is just the latest example of how Cisco is empowering service providers to deliver mission-critical services to enterprise customers. Commercial services for managed firewall, VPN, and intrusion detection are becoming readily available on a worldwide basis. Some of Cisco's managed-service-provider associates include: Activis; Counterpane Internet Security, Inc.; DefendNet Solutions, Inc.; Exodus Communications, Inc.; Fiberlink Communications; Genuity Inc.; Lightpath, a service of Cablevision Systems Corp.; NetSolve; PAETEC Communications; Riptech, Inc.; SmartPipes, Inc.; and Telenisus Corp. Each of these companies represents at least one of the major managed-service types. This includes managed firewall; managed intrusion detection; MPLS-based VPN and all types of IPsec-based VPN; access VPN (remote access); intranet VPN (site-to-site); extranet VPN; customer-premises-based VPN; and network-based VPN.

Leading managed-service providers are working with Cisco because they recognize the competitive advantage provided by Cisco security solutions. Managed services based on Cisco products and the SAFE security blueprint allow the end-customer to easily migrate to a new deployment model while preserving their confidence in a trusted solution set. This is especially important as enterprise customers increase their dependence on managed services and move to broad deployment.
